After the tremendous reception of Joaquin Phoenix’s performance in Joker, it appears there are more superhero movies in his future. Sony is purportedly looking to reboot their Morbius film that is currently set to release in July of 2020. Sony’s first Morbius film, which will star Leto as the titular vampire, is currently in post-production. As of now, it will still release on schedule.
Leto expressed that he felt “alienated and upset” when he found out that Warner Brothers would be casting Phoenix in 2019’s Joker, which has no connection to Suicide Squad (2016). There is no telling how he will react when he finds out the same thing is happening again, this time before the release of even a single trailer for his movie.
Our source tells us that Leto is completely unaware of the plans to reboot Morbius. Sony would like to keep it that way as long as possible. Leto, who is known for method acting, has vowed to remain in character until the film’s premiere in case of reshoots. He will not listen to anyone who does not address him as “Morbius the Living Vampire” so executives have managed to avoid his finding out about the reboot plans since he “doesn’t listen to a word that comes out of our mouths anyway,” according to producer Matt Tolmach.
“We just have to get through this one first,” said Tolmach. “As long as we can get through the press tour without any pouty outbursts from Jared, we should be okay. We’ll put the movie out there for people to see and who knows, maybe some idiot will enjoy it. And then we’ll move on to the real one.”
