We’re only half-way through the year and it’s already been one full of smart and deviously written film reviews. The current state of Western civilization has created a canvas perfect for biting commentary on some instantly iconic genre cinema, and now there’s a new giant standing – nay, dancing – among them.
”Joker’ Film Review,’ written by David Rooney and published on HollywoodReporter.com, is going to be controversial and it will be divisive. One could be forgiven for wondering if we really need a movie review of Joker at all. But Rooney’s writing both meets and exceeds Kirk Honeycutt’s ”The Dark Knight’: Film Review.’ It may seem unfair to compare these completely separate film reviews, but that’s only because you don’t know how to get clicks.
There’s already Oscar buzz around Joaquin Phoenix’s performance in Todd Phillips’ Joker, so Rooney’s review comes at a particularly sensitive point in the national conversation surrounding the film.
